Standard Chartered has rolled out institutional-grade custody for Ripple USD (RLUSD) operating on the XRP Ledger (XRPL), offering qualified clients the ability to access the stablecoin via the institution’s digital asset custody division.
The bank officially disclosed the rollout on October 12, 2026. Delivery of the service is channeled through the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) office of Standard Chartered, operating under the regulatory oversight of the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA).
This development equips institutional participants with a secure pathway to store RLUSD through formal banking custody infrastructure instead of relying on self-management. RLUSD functions as Ripple’s US dollar-pegged stablecoin built to support financial applications, payment flows, and trading activity.
Additionally, Standard Chartered is collaborating alongside Ripple and LMAX Group toward an upcoming initiative that would accept RLUSD as acceptable collateral for specific LMAX offerings. This framework is not yet operational.
Ripple and LMAX Plan RLUSD Collateral Integration
As part of the envisioned configuration, qualifying RLUSD balances maintained within custody would be factored into the collateral valuation acknowledged by LMAX Group, eliminating any necessity to move the actual tokens directly over to the trading platform.
According to the firms involved, this structure aims to grant institutional users enhanced versatility when utilizing digital assets for trading purposes, mitigate risks associated with token transfers, and assist with counterparty exposure management. It is likewise designed to optimize how participants allocate capital across collateral structures and trading accounts.
Implementation of the proposed integration relies on completing final documentation, executing successful tests, fulfilling relevant legal and regulatory mandates, securing internal consents, and achieving operational readiness across applicable regions. A specific release date has not been shared by the companies.
Waqar Chaudry, global head of digital assets for securities and transaction services at Standard Chartered, noted that institutional entities seek participation in digital asset markets while preserving traditional risk management and custody benchmarks.
Jack McDonald, who leads stablecoin operations at Ripple, remarked that the collaboration merges RLUSD running on the XRPL with the institutional trading framework of LMAX and the custody operations of Standard Chartered.
This milestone builds upon Standard Chartered’s wider growth within digital asset custody solutions. Back in September, the institution designated LMAX Group as a custody customer spanning both its Luxembourg and Dubai branches.
While this latest update integrates RLUSD into the bank’s institutional portfolio, the anticipated collateral scheme could push the stablecoin’s utility past basic storage and settlement functions straight into active trading pipelines.
