- BitGo and HashKey Cloud have entered into a strategic accord encompassing tokenization, trading, custody, and staking for real-world assets (RWA).
- Mike Belshe, CEO of BitGo, aims to transition prime brokerage into the primary commercial focus for the enterprise by broadening its settlement, trading, and lending capabilities.
BitGo and HashKey Cloud have finalized a strategic alliance spanning real-world asset (RWA) tokenization, institutional trading, custody, and staking as both firms broaden their institutional client operations throughout Asia.
Formalized in Singapore over the course of TOKEN2049 week, this pact builds upon a prior staking partnership initiated by the organizations back in July. Through this expanded arrangement, HashKey Cloud steps in as a validator partner on BitGo’s network, starting out by facilitating Ethereum and Solana staking services for qualified institutional users of BitGo.
Furthermore, the firms will collaborate regarding institutional trade flows. Subject to standard onboarding protocols and relevant contracts, BitGo is set to supply custody services to HashKey Capital alongside its related funds. BitGo will additionally act as a custodial partner for HashKey’s RWA tokenization projects, thereby ensuring comprehensive coverage spanning multiple sectors of the digital asset industry.
Execution of the agreement was handled by Abel Seow, who serves as BitGo’s Managing Director and Head of APAC Sales, and Leo Li, the CEO of HashKey OnChain BG. Representatives from both entities noted that these offerings will exclusively cater to eligible clients and will only be provided where local regulatory frameworks allow.
BitGo Targets Prime Brokerage for Growth
This alliance arrives alongside a broader pivot in business strategy articulated by BitGo CEO Mike Belshe. Speaking with Bloomberg in Singapore on October 6, Belshe indicated that BitGo envisions prime brokerage as the primary growth driver for the enterprise while it scales up settlement, lending, and trading functions.
Expressing his ultimate vision, Belshe stated he would “ultimately like prime brokerage to account for 100% of BitGo’s revenue,” asserting that greater value is generated by assisting clients with digital asset financing and trading rather than depending primarily on custody charges.
BitGo has actively constructed the necessary framework to support this shift. Its BitGo Prime offering integrates financing, trading, and collateral management, while settlement and custody operations continue to function within its wider institutional portfolio. Additionally, the firm rolled out BitGo Link in August to assist institutions in capital management across BitGo alongside linked exchanges for financing and trading operations.
Consequently, the pact with HashKey incorporates yet another institutional connection into BitGo’s growing web of partners, aligning with Belshe’s vision for the future trajectory of the enterprise.
